I have played for so many shows, auditions, rehearsals, classes, casting directors, etc. that completing a list proved too gargantuan a task. Part of the problem is that so many of the jobs have a story. You may want to read a traditional, paragraph-long bio on other pages (Performance Singing, Singalongs for Seniors), which barely scratches the surface. For now, please allow me to share five of my favorite memories:
♪ My work playing auditions for Banjo Boy led to a later phone call from Randy Hobler (creator of
the show). Something had gone wrong with one piano track on the recording, and I was called in
to play the song “I’ll Be There” for Christie Burgess with the orchestra, although everything else
had been previously recorded. Fun!
♪ I had such a great time with Norman Wendall Kauahi (director/choreographer) and Linda
Cholodenko (assistant director/choreographer) during pre-production rehearsals for their Damn
Yankees at the Fundación Comedia Musical in San Juan, Puerto Rico, that my husband and
I vacationed in Puerto Rico with the main purpose of seeing the show. We had free tickets, but not
for the plane, hotel, car rental, etc....Still, great!
♪ The music from Once Around the Sun that I played at callbacks was so good that I was prompted
to take my husband and myself to see the show (this was in New York, at New World Stages—
not in Puerto Rico). Excellent!
♪ I bonded so happily with the guys at the Forever Plaid auditions (Michael Scheman, director, hired
me) that I took myself to Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts on Long Island to see the show
and said hello to the cast afterwards. Special!
♪ When I was a kid, my family went to see Stop the World—I Want To Get Off at Westbury Music
Fair, with Tony Tanner (he starred in the movie). Imagine my thrill when I worked with him years
later in Swan Song, a murder mystery with music. And I played a role: Fiona, the pianist for the
opera company. Naturally!
